SUMMARY:Over the Moon
DESCRIPTION:Over The Moon\nCanadian Juno nominated roots/swing duo Over The Moon’s   Suzanne Levesque and Craig Bignell are awarding multi-instrumentalists/vocalists that met\, fell in love\, got married and discovered their voices blend so well together that people often tear up upon hearing them sing. \nLiving on a ranch in the foothills of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains\, it’s inevitable there will be a strong sense of place- and the rhythms of the land when you start to make music.   When the couple released their debut album\, the resonances were there for all to hear. reflecting the pulse of life\,  lived in a territory that is both dirt-hard rugged and beautiful. \nTheir music is a wild ride from 40’s sounding western swing and Appalachian old-time\, to cowboy blues.  Simple and sweet\, all of their material has a common thread that speaks of the Canadian west and on their UK release\, reviews were glowing…. \n“They are naturals on stage\, clearly delighted to be there and interspersing entertaining\, tongue-in-cheek banter with stories of their lives in the tiny (population 297 according to the latest census) village of Longview\, Alberta. There’s even a bit of yodelling\, which the crowd joins in enthusiastically. Sue’s double bass drives things along at an easy loping pace while Craig’s banjo and guitar (which Suzanne also essays on occasionally) sit on top\, as comfortably as you could wish. Their songs are classy too\, by turns sad\, funny and insightful” – Jeremy Searle

SUMMARY:Diyet and the Love Soldiers
DESCRIPTION:Grande Prairie Live Theatre’s 31st Season of Roots and Blues Concert Series\nDiyet was born in a tent and spent her childhood on the ancestral lands of the Kluane First Nation people in Canada’s Yukon Territory. Coming from a family rooted in traditions but tempered with a good sense of adventurous hippie attitudes\, Diyet has created a musical presence that is as diverse as her Southern Tutchone\, Tlingit\, Japanese and Scottish heritage. \nShe discovered her voice singing on the school bus\, went on to acquire a degree in music\, then became a published songwriter in Vancouver\, BC. When the pull of the North was too strong\, she packed her bags\, and her Dutch husband\, moving back to her village of 90 people without a plan or even a pub to play in. The result of this unlikely career move has been international collaborations\, extensive touring and two acclaimed albums (The Breaking Point & When You Were King\,) with the third album: Diyet & The Love Soldiers released in 2018 which received nominations for: “Folk Album Of The Year” at “The Indigenous Music Awards”\, “Indigenous Artist Of The Year” at the “Western Canadian Music Awards” and “Indigenous Songwriter Of The Year” at the “Canadian Folk Music Awards” \nDiyet & The Love Soldiers is alternative country\, folk\, roots and traditional with catchy melodies and stories deeply rooted in Diyet’s Indigenous world view and northern life. Diyet sings in both English and  Southern Tutchone (her native language) and plays bass guitar. Backed by Love Soldiers: husband and collaborator\, Robert van Lieshout (acoustic guitar\, drums & percussion) and Juno Award winning producer\, Bob Hamilton (electric guitar\, pedal steel & mandolin); this trio multi instrumental trio from the Yukon has a sound that can fill a big stage or capture an intimate room. \nDuring the last decade Diyet & the Love Soldiers have performed nationally in Canada and internationally in Europe. Performance highlights include major folk\, jazz\, world and multi-disciplinary festivals and theatres in Canada\, tour in the UK and upcoming tours in Germany & The Netherlands. TV appearances include; APTN Indigenous Day 2019 Live\, CTV Atlantic Morning Show and CBC New Years Eve 2020 National Broadcast. \nContinuing to live with feet firmly planted in two worlds\, Diyet’s adventurous and sometimes chaotic life is on full display in her music. She often says\, “yesterday\, fishing for our dinner on the ice\, the next day\, on the stage singing for you!”

SUMMARY:Russell de Carle Trio
DESCRIPTION:Grande Prairie Live Theatre’s 31st Season of Roots and Blues Concert Series\nRussell deCarle’s songwriting has absorbed all those influences\, and he avidly listens to smooth soul singers and the men and women who made early country music so compelling. Like his previous (debut) solo album Under the Big Big Sky\, there are eight original songs here\, and three covers. \nHe surrounds himself with brilliant players\, and the crew on this record is superb. Guitarist Steve Briggs is\, as always\, subtle\, tasteful\, and understated\, but central to deCarle’s sound; bassist Russ Boswell is\, simply\, the perfect foundation. Drummers Al Cross and Jorn Anderson can be heard on different tracks\, as well as singers Cindy Church\, Erin Costelo\, Karla Crawford and Michelle Willis. Other guests include Denis Keldie (accordion)\, John Sheard (piano) and Chris Whiteley (harmonica). deCarle\, Briggs and L. Stu Young share production credits.\n______________________________________________________ \nFor some artists\, the urge to make solo records asserts itself almost as soon as they start to gain attention as part of a successful band. Not so for deCarle: “For decades people were asking for a solo record\,” he says\, “but I never thought I was ready and the band always satisfied the musical part of my life.” \nBut that was then and this is now. \nThis third record is a perfect example of what you get when you hear this artist live — in a club\, in a concert hall\, or at a festival.\n“I want people to be emotionally invested in these songs\, whether I wrote them or whether they were created by others\,” he says. “If they touched audiences in some way — well\, that would be the best thing that could happen.”\nIt’s his personal objective whenever he performs. “I’m a music lover first and foremost — a product of all the stuff I’ve ever listened to — and my tastes are very broad.”\n“To me\, this is a torchy\, bluesy record more than anything else. And I know in my heart that it’s something that people who hear it will understand immediately….” \n–Richard Flohil\, Fall 2017 \nrusselldecarle.com
