Grande Prairie Live Theatre Welcomes John Roper as New General Manager
GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB — The Board of Directors of Grande Prairie Live Theatre (GPLT) is pleased to announce the appointment of John Roper as its new General Manager. John will officially join the GPLT team on August 17, 2026.
With a lifelong passion for the arts, John brings more than 25 years of experience working in theatre, including leadership roles with the Lester Centre of the Arts in Prince Rupert, BC, and the Phoenix Theatre in Fort Nelson, BC.
During his twelve years as General Manager of the Phoenix Theatre, John led the organization through significant growth and modernization, overseeing major capital improvements, securing substantial grant funding, expanding community partnerships, and introducing innovative programming that strengthened the theatre’s role as a vibrant cultural hub. Known for his collaborative leadership style, John believes the strongest arts organizations balance artistic excellence with sound business leadership, ensuring they remain vibrant, sustainable, and welcoming for generations to come. Throughout his career, he has been committed to making the arts welcoming, accessible, and relevant to everyone through creative programming, community partnerships, enhanced cultural spaces, and sustainable fundraising initiatives.
GPLT Board President Abby Webb said the Board is excited to welcome John to the organization.
